Quarkslab and ZAP Surgical Partner to Protect Embedded Intelligence in Surgical Robots

Paris, 1st April 2026 — Quarkslab, a French specialist in offensive and defensive cybersecurity and publisher of the QShield embedded software protection solution, is proud to announce that U.S. based ZAP Surgical Systems, a global leader in non-invasive robotic brain surgery, has deployed QShield to protect its most sensitive algorithms, intellectual property, and data embedded within its ZAP-X® platform. The collaboration marks an important step toward integrating advanced software protection into high-precision medical devices.

The ZAP-X relies on complex embedded software, from beam-targeting and dose-calculation algorithms, to treatment-planning models and real-time image-guidance engines. These components represent years of research and development and form the core intellectual property of their designers. In a sector facing intense global competition and growing cyber threats, protecting this software has become a strategic priority.

QShield protects applications against unauthorized access to their code. By generating complex, difficult to reverse engineer code, it enhances security against both static and dynamic attacks, employing robust obfuscation and runtime application self-protection (RASP) to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of critical software.

The goals of this collaboration include:

  • Protect ZAP Surgical’s intellectual property against reverse engineering, copying, and piracy of their critical software;
  • Guarantee the integrity and availability of systems used in sensitive clinical environments;
  • Secure proprietary algorithms and software to strengthen their overall resilience against emerging cyber threats.

“Medical devices can be high-value targets for IP theft and cyberattacks. QShield ensures that the critical software powering ZAP Surgical’s platform remains protected at the deepest level This collaboration illustrates the natural convergence between deep-tech cybersecurity and medical innovation.”

— Cyrille Ngalle, VP Software Protection, Quarkslab

“As medical technology becomes increasingly software-driven, cybersecurity and intellectual property protection are more important than ever.Our collaboration with Quarkslab reflects ZAP Surgical’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the technologies that enable next-generation robotic surgery.”

— Alex Maslowski PhD, VP of Software, ZAP Surgical

This collaboration takes place in the context of increasingly stringent regulatory requirements regarding cybersecurity for connected medical devices particularly from authorities such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the United States and Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé in France. It further reinforces Quarkslab’s position as a trusted partner for deeptech and medtech companies pursuing international deployment.

About Quarkslab

Quarkslab is a French cybersecurity company specializing in offensive and defensive security, reverse engineering, and software protection, with deep expertise in sovereignty challenges and the securing of critical dual-use embedded systems. It offers cybersecurity services through its QLab practice (penetration testing, red teaming, vulnerability research, and R&D) and a QShield solution for protecting sensitive data and embedded systems, deployed across the defense, aerospace, space, energy, and critical IoT sectors.

About ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc.

ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc., a global leader in non-invasive robotic brain surgery, is committed to reducing the costs and complexities that limit access to world-class radiosurgery (SRS) for the brain, head, and neck. The company manufactures the ZAP-X® Gyroscopic Radiosurgery® platform and is also pioneering new applications of high-precision SRS in areas such as depression, addiction, and obesity. Founded in 2014 by Dr. John R. Adler, Emeritus Dorothy & TK Chan Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at Stanford University, ZAP introduced the world’s first vault-free radiosurgery platform – eliminating the need for costly shielded treatment rooms and enabling flexible, high-visibility siting. ZAP-X also advances beyond legacy Cobalt-60 technology with a modern linear accelerator for safer, more sustainable care
